The Chaco lancehead is a venomous viper that lives in forests across parts of South America. It is one of the main causes of snakebite in Argentina, so it is an important snake to recognise. Its bite can be serious, and it should be left alone.1

It lives in forests. It has been found in the Vermejo River region, on the border between Paraguay and Argentina.1

It is one of the main causes of snakebite in Argentina. Between 1960 and 1975, about 80% of the roughly 500 cases reported each year were attributed to this species, according to a 1985 study by Esteso.1
