Jerdon's pit viper is a venomous snake that lives in the forests, shrublands and grasslands of the Himalayan region and nearby parts of Asia. It is found in northeastern India, Nepal, northern Myanmar, southwestern China and Vietnam. It hunts rats as an adult and frogs when young.1

The snout is a little more than twice the diameter of the eye.1
The top of the head is covered in small, unequal, smooth scales, apart from large scales between the nostrils and above the eyes.1
It has 7 to 8 scales on the upper lip, with the third and fourth beneath the eye.1
