McGregor's pit viper is a venomous snake that lives only in the Philippines, on the Batanes Islands. It belongs to the pit viper family, a group of snakes with heat-sensing pits between their eyes and nostrils. It is known to scientists from only a small island group.1

  • Males have 170 to 172 or 173 to 178 ventral (belly) scales. Females have 169 to 172 or 168 to 178.1
  • Males have 62 to 66 subcaudal (under-tail) scales. Females have 58 to 60 or 56 to 62.1
  • It has 10 or 11 supralabial scales, the scales along the upper lip.1
