Peters' coral snake is a venomous snake that lives in the cloud forests of eastern Ecuador. It is found only in one province, Morona-Santiago, high on the eastern slope of the Andes mountains. It is a medium-sized snake for its group, and its colour pattern and light blue snout set it apart from most other New World coral snakes.1

  • The black rings are not arranged in groups of three (triads), which is unusual for a coral snake.1
  • There is light blue on the snout, which most other New World coral snakes do not have.1
  • It is medium-sized for its genus, reaching a total length of up to 67 cm including the tail.1
