The pygmy blackback coral snake is a very small venomous snake from northwestern South America. It lives in forest and is active at night, when it hunts small burrowing lizards. It is found in Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.1

  • The back is black, with a yellow or orange band across the top of the head.1
  • The underside is black with large yellow oval spots, 26 to 34 spots along the body.1
  • The tail has one or two red rings.1
