Steindachner's coral snake is a venomous snake that lives in the forests of northwestern South America. It has bold red, white and black rings, which is typical of the coral snakes of the Americas. Its bite is the reason to know it on sight.1

Red rings are three to four scales wide, white rings are one scale wide, and black rings are three to seven scales wide.1
