- Has a pair of half-tubes at the rear end of the body that lock together to form a breathing siphon.1
- Pushes the tip of this breathing tube above the water surface to take in air.1
- Young ones have no developed siphon and instead breathe through six pairs of spiracles (small breathing holes) along the abdomen.1

Òtítọ́
Adults breathe through a tube at the rear of the body. The two half-tubes lock together to form a siphon that carries air down to the breathing tubes (tracheae) inside the abdomen.1
Young water scorpions do not have a siphon yet. They breathe through six pairs of spiracles along the abdomen.1
The eggs are laid inside plant stems. Each egg has seven filaments that float freely in the water.1
It lives in still or slow water such as ponds and small rivers.1
